Team Code of Conduct

Merrimac Swim Team Code of Conduct & Risk Management

Additional expectations have been added in regard to Covid-19 safety during the 2020 season.

Swimmers must submit to a no-touch infrared temperature check at the start of each practice. Any swimmer with a temperature of 100.4 or above will not be permitted to practice that day.

  • A coach will ask swimmers, as they come into practice, if they feel ill in any way, specifically listing certain symptoms, and send home those swimmers reporting feeling ill or experiencing symptoms. Symptoms include mild to severe respiratory illness with fever, cough and difficulty breathing, or other symptoms identified by the CDC.

Swimmers must maintain social distancing:

  • Follow directions for spacing and stay at least six feet apart from others.
  • Do not make physical contact with others
  • Avoid touching your face. 
  • Avoid sharing food, drinks, or towels. 
  • Maintain appropriate social distancing from other athletes when taking a break. 


Swimmers

●Be punctual for practices and meets

●Exhibit good sportsmanship for all practices and meets

●Swimmers will not question or argue with coaches, officials or stroke judges

●Cooperate with coaches, teammates, parent volunteers and officials

●No profanity, taunting or trash talking before, during or after practices and meets

●No consumption of alcohol, tobacco use, vaping, misuse of drugs or use of illegal drugs

●Be gracious in victory and dignified in defeat

●Support teammates, coaches and other CMCV Conference teams as well as other teams we compete against

Parents/Guardians

●Swimmers are in the care of Merrimac Swim Team coaches during all practices and meets

●Swimmers 6 and under shall have a parent or guardian with them at all practices and meets.

●No shouting or negative comments from the pool deck during practices and meets

●Provide positive support only for both teams

●Do not comment negatively to opposing swimmers, coaches or fans

●Do not use profanity at any time

●Do not challenge or object to the decisions of the officials or coaches

●If you have a problem with a coach or an official within the CMCV conference bring it to the attention of Tiffany Parkin or another swim board member.

●Teach your children to swim within the rules and exhibit good sportsmanship

●Be gracious in victory and dignified in defeat

●Be a positive role model for your children and their teammates

●No consumption of alcohol, tobacco product, or illegal drugs at any meet you are attending

General

●The Merrimac Swim Team will not tolerate bullying or harassment of any sort.

●Use of audio or visual recording devices including a cell phone is not permitted in the changing areas, restrooms or locker rooms. USA Swimming Rule 305.3

●The Merrimac Swim Team will encourage an atmosphere of openness, cooperation and loyalty within the team.

Any violation of this code will be brought to the attention of the Merrimac Swim Team governing body who will determine the appropriate consequences which could include any of the following:

1.Swimmer sits out part or all of a practice – at the coaches’ discretion

2.Parent meeting with coaches and swim team governing body

3.Swimmer is suspended from one swim meet

4.Swimmer will be removed from swim team with no refunding of fees.

Any violation of this code by a parent/guardian may result in the parent/guardian being asked to leave the swim meet /practice. Inappropriate behavior towards a swimmer, coach or other parent will not be tolerated.

If swimmer is suspended from 2 meets due to disciplinary actions, the swimmer will be permanently suspended from the team, with no refund of the registration fee.
